The goal of The Kelly Cardenas Academy is to inspire our attendees with fun techniques they can bring back to the salon, but most of all, inspire them to bring their business game to the next level. We'd like to show them, through our actions and efforts, that community involvement and inspiration through local artists is so vital to the growth of a business.

We are a salon run by young, enthusiastic business professionals who have all, at some point, broken out and relocated our entire lives. We've banded together to change the industry under our fearless leader, Kelly Cardenas. With not much more than a salon, a dream, and a group of inspired and passionate 20-something year olds, we have been able to organically grow a successful business with help from our neighbors and friends we've made along the way.

The saying goes, "Its not about what you know, but who you know." However, we believe it's a little bit of both. With strong fundamentals and structured in-salon weekly education, we get the "what" out of the way so it's all about community, building relationships and making people happy.

Topics that will be covered:
-Long hair styling-Innovative haircutting based on basic structure-Simple, bold color techniques-Teamwork and community involvement in and out of the salon

Who is Beau Boncutter: Beau Boncutter has been involved in the fashion industry since he was a young man; traveling around the world representing his mothers fashion company and doing makeup for movies and fashion shows. It was his creativity and love for fashion that drew his love for the art of designing beautiful hair. While it was more of the education and show aspect of the hair industry that made him decide to go to cosmetology school, he knew that his work behind a chair would be the avenue to get him to where he really wanted to be: on a platform spreading his knowledge to others within the industry he loves. Not only has Beau become one of the top stylists within Kelly Cardenas Salon but he has also taken a comanding roll within the Kelly Cardenas Academies and traveling show team. "I love being in the salon because it's where I get to hone my skills. It's also a great place to find inspiration for many of the looks I get to teach all over the country. What other industry can provide you with the opportunity to do what you love while traveling the world as well as when you're at home? ...none" -Beau Boncutter

Who is Diana Monteleone: Diana Monteleone has had the chance to do what so many others have only dreamed of. Starting as an assistant at the age of nineteen with Kelly Cardenas Salon, Diana had a lot of dreams for her career which mirrored those of many young ambitious hairdressers: open a salon, get involved in fashion, become a platform artist and travel the world as an educator. She knew that in order to succeed in accomplishing all of her lofty aspirations, it was going to take an extensive amount of hard work and dedication. Kelly saw the desire and drive of Diana when she started with the company and at the age of twenty-two, he gave her opportunity to pack up and move to Chicago where she would be opening the newest Kelly Cardenas Salon. Now, at the young age of 24, she has grown to be one of the top stylists within the salon, has immersed herserlf within fashion shows all over the city, has traveled the country as a platform artist and has also traveled the world representing Kelly Cardenas Salon. At her young age and with such strong passion, there don't seem to be any limits on what Diana Monteleone will accomplish throughout her career.

Who is George Gonzalez

The Salon Industry - An Exciting, Glamorous Career presented by Edward J Oberle Lopez and George Gonzalez
Sunday 3/27 3:30 - 5:00PM Room 6

George Gonzalez
Salon Owner. Philanthropist. Celebrity Hairstylist.

Honest, soft spoken and genuine: George Gonzalez, celebrity hairstylist and owner of George- The Salon on 23 W. Hubbard in downtown Chicago, adapts these qualities to his beauty profession to not only nurture outward beauty but to strengthen the inner spirit as well. Sitting in his chair, George’s clients experience a sense of calm and confidence. It’s clear from the moment you meet him that his goal is to help people feel better about them and he is thankful he has been provided with the gift to do just this.

It’s a gift, however, that is the result of years of training for this man who considers working with hair an art form that offers him the opportunity to learn more about himself. He is passionate in everything he does and deems it “Amazing that I get paid to do what I love.”
George has worked as a stylist for the last 19 years attending cosmetology school at the Creative Beauty Academy in northwest Indiana and apprenticing at DeMari Salon in Lansing, Illinois for Alyessa DeMari. Since then, he has worked with the PGA during three President's Cup Tournaments, cutting and styling hair for the top golfers and their wives. This included South Africa 2003, Washington, D.C. 2005, and San Francisco 2009.

In February 2008, George continued onto the next phase of his professional career by opening George- The Salon in downtown Chicago. As a hidden oasis in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, this luxurious and serene loft is the home of 8 stations featuring the city’s top cutters, stylists, and colorists who believe in continued personal and professional growth as well as providing the latest in education, services, and techniques.

George also freelances at one of the entertainment industry’s most influential locations, the Spa at Harpo. With this amazing opportunity in hand, George works with celebrities and his salon has worked on makeover segments for the The Oprah Winfrey Show.

George’s passion for helping people feel better about themselves still remains at the forefront of his career due to the vast pro-bono work he offers to victims of domestic violence. Driven by his personal experience, he’s made a commitment to help these women regain their emotional and physical confidence. Providing free services - as well as engaging his entire staff in his dedication to this good work - is just one way he is fulfilling what he believes is his destiny. George is also developing a hair product line that will benefit organizations helping those whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. The On Your Feet Foundation, Between Friends and other small shelters for victims of domestic violence are among the organizations George supports.
“Having a business gives me a platform to do what I feel is necessary in order to give back to my community,” explains Gonzalez. “George - The Salon's main focus is on helping victims of domestic violence regain self-esteem. I know first-hand what domestic violence does to a woman's sense of self. As a child, I witnessed my mother abused by my former step-father and I watched her struggle with her own sense of worth. Whether a woman's self-esteem is damaged due to another person or a difficult situation, I find it is important to support organizations that can provide the resources they need to improve their lives.”
